FEATURES
CUISINE: French
Prep & Cook Time: 35 minutes
Difficulty: Medium
Serves: 2–3
Ingredients
- 1 kg potatoes (best for frying – yellow or white varieties)
- Cold water (for soaking)
- Oil for frying (sunflower or peanut oil)
Seasoning Mix:
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp sweet paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
(Optional: a pinch of chili powder or dried rosemary for extra flavor)

Directions
- Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized sticks. Uniform cutting is essential for a soft interior and crispy exterior. - Soak for Extra Crispiness
Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for 20–30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps achieve a crispy texture. - Dry Thoroughly
Drain the potatoes and pat them completely dry using a kitchen towel or paper towels. Dry potatoes fry better. - Double Frying – The Secret to Perfect Fries
- Heat the oil to 160°C (320°F) and fry the potatoes for 5–6 minutes, until soft but not browned.
- Remove and let them rest for 5 minutes.
- Increase the oil temperature to 190°C (375°F) and fry again for 3–4 minutes, until golden and crispy.
- Season and Serve
While still hot, transfer the fries to a bowl, add the seasoning mix, and gently toss to coat evenly.
