Directions
Warm and crispy homemade bread rolls that don’t require much time or effort. Once you make them, they will quickly become your favorite – both for their beautiful appearance and delicious taste.
With just a few basic ingredients – flour, dry yeast, lukewarm water, a little sugar, salt, and oil – you get a dough that only needs 10 minutes of kneading, rises once, and bakes into soft, fluffy rolls with a crispy crust.
These rolls are perfect for breakfast, a snack, or as part of a meal, and they go wonderfully with butter, ajvar, or cheese. For easier shaping, you can also check the step-by-step videos on Olgica Naceva Kitchen’s Instagram and Facebook profiles.
Ingredients
For the dough
- 850 g all-purpose flour
- 1 packet dry yeast (7 g)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 500 ml lukewarm water (approx.)
- 2 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
- A little extra oil for brushing and shaping
For baking
- A little oil for greasing the baking tray
Optional
- Water for spraying before baking

Instructions
- Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, combine lukewarm water and dry yeast and let it activate for 10 minutes (bubbles should appear).
Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour and knead into a firm dough for about 10 minutes, until smooth and slightly elastic. - First rise
Let the dough rise for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size. - Divide and shape
On a floured surface, divide the dough into 6 equal pieces (approx. 140 g each).
Shape each piece into a ball, lightly dust with flour, and let rest for 5–10 minutes.
Then, press each ball in the center and roll back and forth to form a small elongated roll. - Final rise before baking
Arrange the rolls on a greased baking tray, leaving space between them.
Cover with a cloth and let rise for 20–30 minutes, depending on room temperature (ideal around 25°C / 77°F). - Baking
Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
Optional: place a small bowl of water in the oven to help achieve a crispier crust.
Spray the rolls lightly with water if desired.
Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown.
Serving
Serve warm with butter, ajvar, or fresh cheese.
Enjoy!
