Directions
Syrian style rice is a unique Arabic dish that is easy and quick to prepare.
The rice is airy, whole grain, and non-sticky, achieved by lightly frying it and then covering until the water is absorbed. Before serving, fluff the rice and serve with your desired sauce.
It is often served with okra, but if unavailable, you can use green or yellow beans.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1/4 cup vermicelli
- 2 cups water
- 2–3 tbsp olive oil
- Salt to taste
Preparation:
- In a pan, add oil and broken vermicelli. Fry over medium heat until the noodles darken, stirring constantly.
- Add washed rice and fry briefly, about 1 minute.
- Add water, mix, and let it boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally.

- When water is almost absorbed, remove from heat, cover, and let sit for a few minutes.
- Fluff before serving and serve with your choice of sauce, e.g., beef and green bean sauce.
