Inspired by the rich traditions of the Orient, the elegance of Arabic desserts, and the culture of indulgence, this recipe was created for moments when you want more than “just a sweet.” This is not your ordinary kunafa — it’s an experience, crafted with elegant design and luxurious details to bring the magic of an Arabian night right into your home.

Every layer is carefully designed to stand out, with each bite offering a perfect balance of creamy texture, subtly sweet syrup, and delicate notes of vanilla and pistachio.

When to enjoy it:

  • Make it when you want to slow down.
  • Eat it when you want to savor.
  • Share it when you want to create a moment.

This is not an everyday dessert. It’s for peaceful evenings, unhurried weekends, special celebrations, and unforgettable occasions.

The combination of crispy kataifi pastry, silky vanilla cream, melted mozzarella, and fragrant Oriental syrup creates a dessert full of contrast, depth, and character.

This signature Arabian Night Kunafa is different from traditional versions — it’s meant to be remembered for the feeling it leaves, not just its taste.

Ingredients

Pastry:

  • 500 g kataifi, shredded
  • 200 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 30 g ground pistachios (optional, for a luxurious texture)

Filling:

  • 250 g mozzarella, grated
  • 100 g mascarpone or cream cheese
  • 1 packet vanilla pudding (for 500 ml milk)
  • 500 ml milk
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla paste or seeds

Syrup:

  • 300 g sugar
  • 200 ml water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp rose water (optional)
  • 1 tsp orange blossom liqueur (optional)

Decoration:

  • Chopped pistachios
  • Edible gold dust
  • Flower petals (optional)

Preparation (Layer by Layer)

Syrup:

  1. Boil sugar with water and lemon for 5–7 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, add flavoring (rose water or liqueur), and let cool.

Vanilla Pudding + Mascarpone Cream:

  1. Cook the pudding with milk and sugar.
  2. Stir in mascarpone until smooth and creamy.
  3. Let it cool slightly.

Pastry:

  1. Spread the shredded kataifi with melted butter and ground pistachios, mixing gently to coat evenly.

Assembling the Signature Layers:

  1. First layer: Place half of the kataifi evenly in a baking dish.
  2. Second layer: Spread the creamy vanilla pudding and mascarpone filling on top.
  3. Third layer: Add the grated mozzarella.
  4. Final layer: Cover with remaining kataifi and gently press.

Baking – Two Options:

1️⃣ Oven (classic):

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Immediately pour over the cooled syrup.

2️⃣ Stovetop (pan method):

  • Cook kunafa in a thick pan over medium heat.
  • Cover and cook 8–10 minutes on one side.
  • Carefully flip and cook another 8–10 minutes until both sides are golden.
  • Immediately pour over the cooled syrup.

Decoration & Serving:

  • Sprinkle with chopped pistachios, edible gold, or flower petals.
  • Serve warm — each layer is visually distinct, creating a “wow moment” for your dessert.
