🥛 Homemade Condensed Milk

Introduction:
Condensed milk is thick, creamy, and sweet – perfect for desserts, coffee, or various recipes.
Making it at home is simple, using only two ingredients and a basic technique.
The key is to evaporate the water from the milk while sweetening it, achieving the characteristic thick and creamy consistency.

Ingredients 🥛

  • 500 ml milk (3.2% fat recommended for best results)
  • 200 g granulated sugar

Instructions 🥛

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine milk and sugar to distribute heat evenly and prevent scorching.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves.
  3. Increase heat slightly to bring to a gentle simmer, avoiding vigorous boiling.
  4. Reduce heat to maintain a gentle simmer, cook uncovered, stirring occasionally. The mixture will thicken gradually, about 35 minutes depending on desired consistency.
  5. Test by dropping a small amount on a chilled plate – if it thickens like condensed milk, it’s ready.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool completely; it will thicken further.
  7. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

TIP:
Milk with higher fat content produces creamier condensed milk. Stirring occasionally prevents sticking and burning.
