A shortcrust pastry pie that can be prepared in 15 minutes, simply and without a mixer, with a filling of chopped apples and nuts.
If you are a fan of apples and the aroma of vanilla and cinnamon in your home, I recommend you try this warm and crispy dessert that will melt in your mouth.
A simple dough of one egg, butter, flour and granulated sugar, and if you want a healthy option, you can replace the granulated sugar with honey, brown sugar or coconut sugar.
As a mold for the pie, you can use a 24 cm diameter or two smaller baking forms.
Ingredients
4 red skin apples (ajdaret)
50 grams chopped walnuts
280 grams all-purpose flour
1 egg
130 grams butter (room temperature)
140 grams granulated sugar
2 tsp honey
2 tsp corn starch
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 lemon juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp of vanilla extract
Preparation of the filling
Chop the apples into cubes with the skin for a rustic look and red color in the filling. Immediately squeeze fresh lemon juice over them to prevent from darkening, then add half a teaspoon of cinnamon and 50 grams of chopped walnuts and mix. In a pan over medium heat, add 100 grams of sugar and 2 tablespoons of honey and mix until the sugar melts. Then add 30 grams of butter, juice of half a lemon, 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of corn starch. Mix all the ingredients and add the chopped apples with walnuts. Stir over medium heat for five minutes to soften the apple slices and allow all the flavors to develop and absorb.
Crust preparation
Beat one egg with 80 grams of sugar briefly for about 30 seconds and add 100 grams of butter at room temperature. Mix the ingredients to get small lumps of butter, but be careful not to melt the mixture completely, finally add 280 grams of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Mix all the ingredients with your hands, without pressing. The dough should be sandy and crumbly with small lumps, and you will additionally shape it in the pan.
In a pan with a diameter of 24 cm, spread half of the dough, press with a glass so that it is even to the top of the edges, spread the apple filling in the middle and sprinkle the second layer of dough on top of the filling. This layer is not pressed, but left crumbly.
 Bake at 180 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from the pan while is still warm and serve immediately as a hot or cold dessert.
