Discover the magic of tradition with wild blackberries!
This preserve has been made in our family for decades, by the hands of my grandmothers and my mother, and it’s perfect for the whole winter. Serve it with cakes, pancakes, or simply with fresh bread and cheese for a moment of pure joy.
Ingredients
2 kg wild blackberries
1.4 kg granulated sugar
Preparation
- Clean the blackberries and wash them carefully.
- In a 5 kg pot, arrange the blackberries in layers, covering each layer with sugar.
- Start with a layer of blackberries at the bottom, add sugar, repeat, and finish with a layer of sugar on top.
- Let them rest for at least 2 hours, until the blackberries release their juice and the sugar begins to melt.
- Place the pot over low heat and bring to a gentle boil. Stir carefully and occasionally, and at the beginning remove the foam from the surface.
- Cook for 10–15 minutes, just enough for the blackberries to remain whole and juicy.
- If the preserve is too runny, leave it on the heat for a few more minutes.
- Cover the pot with a cloth and let it cool for several hours.
- Transfer into sterilized jars (wash them and heat in the oven for 20 minutes at 100°C before filling).

Serving tip: Enjoy with toasted bread and soft Brie cheese
or fresh burrata – a moment of winter happiness!
