🍯 Aromatic Quince Compote with Sugar – for 4 Jars
Autumn quinces are not only fragrant and flavorful, but also perfect for making a compote that will warm you during the cold days. With the addition of sugar and carefully selected spices like cinnamon, cloves, and star anise, this compote is aromatic, naturally sweet, and perfect for winter desserts. 🛒 Ingredients (for 4 small jars)
- 1 kg quinces
- 400 g sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 lemon (juice and zest)
- 2–3 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise (optional)
- 1.2 L water
🫙 Preparation
- Prepare the quinces
Peel the quinces, remove the cores, and cut them into cubes or slices. - Make the sugar syrup
In a large pot, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved. - Add the fruit and spices
Add the quince pieces to the syrup. Stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, cloves, cinnamon stick, and star anise. Let simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes, until the quinces are tender but still hold their shape. - Sterilize the jars
While the compote is cooking, wash and sterilize the jars and lids. - Fill the jars
Carefully pour the hot compote into the sterilized jars, making sure the fruit is evenly distributed. Seal tightly with lids. Let the jars cool to room temperature. - Storage and enjoyment
Store in a cool, dark place. Enjoy throughout the winter as a dessert, with tea, or as a topping for yogurt and ice cream. ❄️
