Stuffed Poached Apples with Walnuts and Cherry syrup! Delicious”Tufahija”!

Boiled apples are one of the most delicious desserts, with a wonderful aroma of vanilla and a flavor complemented by walnuts and cherries.  This is one of the most famous Bosnian recipes called “Tufahija” and is adapted to my taste, which I hope you gonna like it.

Gluten free, vegan sweet pleasure, that can be a healthy option if you prepare it with a natural sweetener as honey, or you can use coconut sugar, brown sugar or granulated sugar, all of your choice.

Time to prepare this dessert is 15 minutes and does not require much effort and attention.

The best apples to use are golden delishes or red delishes, as they are redder apples with a slightly sour taste and do not fall apart easily when cooked.

 Ingredients and Metod

 3 apples

 700 ml of water

 2 tablespoons of sweetener

 1 stick of cinnamon

 peel of an apple

 1 tsp of vanilla extract

 1/2 lemon for coating apples

 Peel the apples and remove the skin, and the seeds inside. Coat each apple with a little lemon juice after pilling, inside and out, to keep it white.

 In a separate bowl, add the water, one cinnamon stick, sweetener and peel of one apple and vanilla extract. After the water boils, add the apples and cook them for a maximum of 6 minutes, or three minutes on one side and turn for another three minutes on the other side.

 Remove the cooked apples from the water and let them cool completely.

 Meanwhile, prepare the stuffing and the cherry syrup.

 Stuffing

 6 tablespoons of ground walnuts

 2 spoons of honey

 6 tablespoons of water in which the apples were boiled

Mix all the ingredients, if necessary add water if the mixture is too thick. Keep in mind that the filling should not be liquid, but thicker.

 Add the filling to a plastic cake bags to make it easier to fill them, and fill  1/2 of the inside of the apples, then add two to three tablespoons of the cherry syrup and fill with filling to the top.

 Cherry syrup

This syrup will give additional flavor to this wonderful dessert and it is very easy to prepare.

 150 grams of cherries

 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar

 vanilla extract

Add pitted cherries along with sugar and vanilla extract. After the sugar has dissolved, cook for another three to five minutes at a medium heat. Blend with a hand blender and strain if you want a smooth texture.  Cool the syrup before adding.

Finally, decorate as desired with a little heavy cream on top, mint leaves, a cherry and sprinkle with ground walnuts.

 You can store the cooked apples in the refrigerator covered with foil and prepare them chilled before tasting.
