Directions
Custard Bread Rolls of homemade vanilla cream, covered with a slice of orange, decorated with almond flakes.
You can prepare these delicious and fragrant rolls from simple ingredients at home, which will not cost you much, and will look unique and tempting.
It is enough to brush them with melted butter when you take them out of the oven and enjoy in delicios taste until they are still warm.
They simply melt in your mouth, and I believe that one dose will not be enough for you. The dough is kneaded once to rise double size and second before baking to give them a nice volume.
You can keep them in the fridge for several days and serve them as a snack, breakfast or as you prefer.
Ingredients needed for the rolls
200 grams of flour
130 grams of milk (warm)
4 grams of dry yeast
3 tablespoons of honey/2 tablespoons of sugar
35 grams of butter (room temperature)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Preparation
Add the yeast and sweetener to the warm milk, you can optionally use honey or sugar. Mix the ingredients well to dissolve the honey/sugar and immediately add the flour with salt. Knead the dough briefly until all the flour is absorbed and add the softened butter (at room temperature).
Knead the dough for five to ten minutes until the ingredients are evenly distributed and it has a smooth texture. Coat it with oil and let it rise covered with foil. It is enough to double it the size and shape it into rolls.
Ingredients for the Vanilla Cream
3 egg yolks (55 grams)
250 grams of milk
25 grams of starch (one full large spoon)
3 spoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
While the dough is rising, you can prepare the cream and let it cool down nicely.
Beat the egg yolks with the milk and starch, add the sugar and vanilla and mix until it melts, then put it on a low heat. Stir occasionally until thickened. So that there are no lumps in the filling, mix it well at the end and remove it from the heat. Cover the filling with foil and let it cool.
Cut 5 thin slices of orange and remove the peel.
After the dough has doubled in size, knead it briefly and roll it out a few millimeters thin. You can use a glass as shaper to cut 5 pieces of the dough with a diameter of 6-7 centimeters and put them in a baking pan. It is best to use baking paper in the pan and place these pieces on it, which will be the base for the rolls. Divide the rest of the dough into 5 pieces and roll out a string about 40 centimeters long from each piece with your hands.
Spread the filling on the removed bases in the middle. The filling needs to cool down nicely, so that you have a smooth filling, or you can use hand mixer at the end.
Place it in a plastic mold for the filling and apply the filling to each piece, one centimeter away from the ends and more in height. Around the filling in a circle, apply the rolled dough in the form of a string and leave the middle part open. Fill the rolls nicely with the rest of the filling to the very top and finally cover them with a slice of orange. Let them grow nicely, almost double before baking, and coat them with egg wash.
Sprinkle them with almond flakes and poppy seeds and let them bake in a hot oven.
Bake at 170 degrees for 15 minutes, or until they get a nice golden color. When you take them out of the oven, brush them with melted butter and taste them while they are hot.
You can keep them in the fridge as a snack or breakfast.
I wish you a good appetite.
